If you wanted to convert your calculation to nearest round number which is one “step up”, you need to use the roundup formula in excel. The excel has this great built-in feature called Roundup which rounds up values before and after the decimal. So if you want to use this formula but do not know how to use roundup in excel, here is your guide.

Unlike the Round function, the Roundup function will always round the value up one step regardless of the number next to it. Reading this guide completely will give the answer to your question how to use roundup in excel. So let’s get started.

Use roundup function with formula upto three digits after decimal (right side)

1. Open your document you wish to use roundup function. This is an example.

2. Click the cell where you want to use roundup function.

3. Click Formula tab. The options under this tab opens.

4. Click on Math and Trig. This opens a drop down menu.

5. Locate and click Roundup option.

6. A dialogue box appears.

7. Click the arrow next to the Number field.

8. Now click the cell to round. In this case the cell F8 is clicked. Notice the function bar catches the cell reference.

9. Now hit Enter. You will see the field specifies the desired cell to roundup.

10. Now click on the arrow next to Num_digits field. To roundup value at three places to the right, simply type “3”.

11. Now press Enter. You see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to three decimal places.

Use roundup function upto two digits after decimal (right side)

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 2 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits fiel type “2” to roundup to two places. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to two decimal places.

Use roundup function upto one digit after decimal (right side)

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 3 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits field type “1” to roundup to one place. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to one decimal place.

Use roundup function completely without digits after decimal

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 4 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits field type “0” to roundup to one place. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to zero decimal place as a whole number.

Note: The reason that the values are same for SR. No 3 & 4 is that when one decimal place is rounded up, it was 9 which increase 7 before decimal. When we required to round up at zero, the excel considered 7 as just before the decimal and rounded it up. So technically both answers are same and okay.

Use roundup function upto 1 digit before decimal (left side)

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 5 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits field type “-1” to roundup to one place at left of decimal. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to one decimal place at left side of decimal

Use roundup function upto 2 digits before decimal (left side)

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 6 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits field type “-2” to roundup to two place at left of decimal. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to two decimal places at left side of decimal

Use roundup function upto 3 digits before decimal (left side)

1. Repeat the same process for value at S. No 7 untill you reach to the point of deciding how much places you want to roundup as shown. Now in the Num_digits field type “-3” to roundup to three place at left of decimal. Hit Enter key and see the number 3217.974322 is rounded up to three decimal places at left side of decimal
