Text to Columns: Sort data quickly

Text to Columns: Sort data quickly

When creating tables, we sometimes need to import data from outside, and this data often requires secondary classification processing. We now want to classify the data in the table into Name, Age and Telephone. So how can we do that?

1. We select column A, click the Data tab.

2. Click the Text to Columns drop-down button.

3. Then select the Text to Columns option in the drop-down menu.

In the popup dialog box, we can see two options.

+One is Delimited. Here, we can use symbols as the basis for splitting columns.

+The other is Fixed Width. This splitting method is suitable for fixed-width and regular data, such as date, telephone, etc.

4. We can see that the width of our data is not fixed. There are also commas to separate each data. Therefore we select the Delimited option, and then click Next.

5. Check the Other option in Delimiters, then enter a comma at the end. We can also preview the effect of splitting columns in Data preview below.

6. Now we can see that there is a blank column here. We can check Treat consecutive delimiters as one. The Spreadsheet will treat consecutive delimiters as one so that we can avoid separating blank columns when we are splitting the columns.

7. After setting, click Next.

8. In the dialog box, the Column data format defaults to the General type. We can also set other formats according to our needs.

9. Finally, click Finish. Then we can finish the splitting columns of imported data.

Above are our manual split columns methods. If you want to know more about the Smart Split Columns feature, you can join our WPS Academy to watch more related videos.

This skill could be also used in Microsoft Office Excel and Openoffice.
