Lenovo Yoga is one of Lenovo's more impressive laptop series, making rounds in the tech world ever since its launch in 2017. It is talked about to this day for its performance, functionality, and sleekness. Lenovo Yoga 720-15 is a capable machine.

A versatile 2-in-1 device, whether people need it for personal or professional needs, Lenovo Yoga 720-15 delivers. I even have a couple of tweaks that I recommend everyone make. Let me tell you how to elevate your experience with the Lenovo 720-15.

1. Specifications

The most popular choice of processor for the Lenovo Yoga 720-15ikb is an Intel Core i7-7700HQ. The laptop can easily support Intel Core i7s computing power and has the hardware to back it up. It is my choice of processor as well and as expected I found it to work very smoothly. The boot-up was quick, and the responsiveness immaculate.

Bolstering the processing speed and responsiveness is the computer's 8GB DDR4 RAM. It is expandable to 16GB DDR4 if you’re used to a heavy workload.

When it comes to graphics, you’ll find that it comes integrated with Intel HD Graphics 630 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 2GB VRAM, which is fine for basic work and low-resolution videos, but we can make it better. All on a glorious 15.6-inch Full HD or 4K UHD touchscreen.

Hard disk space on the Lenovo 720-15 is extendable as well. Generally, they’d come with a 256GB storage space, but you can stretch it to 512GB or even 1TB of SSD.

2. Pricing

The Lenovo Yoga was never meant to be a budget-friendly option. It was meant for those who want something that can do more for them than an average laptop.

That being said, there is a bit of variety in the Yoga models so that users can pick something that meets both their criteria and budget. It’s safe to say Lenovo does not skimp on the quality, you will get exactly what you pay for.

Base Models can go for $999. Features included in this price range are an Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and integrated graphics. Mid-Range falls somewhere around $1,199 and offers an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and a NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card. Finally, the cream of the crop, High-End models are $1,699 and support Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1050, and a 4K display.

3. Pros & Cons:

It's not all fun and rainbows, though. No device is perfect, and the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 is no exception. Do consider the following Pros and Cons before you decide if this is the computer for you.

Pros:

  • Has a premium aluminum design, exuding a modern, futuristic feel.

  • The screen can flip 360 degrees, making it a versatile 2-in-1 functionality device.

  • A high-resolution, decently sized display

  • It is a reliable laptop for everyday tasks.

  • As said before, I found it very responsive, switching between tabs when working on WPS Office W, and multitasking is fairly easy and quick.

  • It also has good-quality audio output. Perfect for watching your favourite Netflix series, movies, or listening to your Spotify playlist.

Cons:

  • There is no HDMI or SD card slot, so you have limited ports. I felt like that was one of the bigger downsides for me.

  • It’s also not the lightest model out there. For example, my MacBook Air is much more portable than my Yoga 720-15.

  • You guys know how I like my battery life, which is why I felt it could be better, especially on the 4K model.

  • My last issue with the Yoga 720-15 is that its USB-C port doesn't support charging. Feels like a missed opportunity.

4. Ideal Users

All of that said, the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 is a formidable PC and is ideal for creative projects like photography, design, and editing. The touchscreen feature along with the stylus support makes digital art a lot more easier than using a trackpad. Plus the high-resolution touchscreen doesn’t hurt.

If you’re a student or a teacher, Lenovo Yoga is great for note-taking, making and delivering presentations, and streaming lectures.

Similarly, if you want to use it for business, you should be able to use apps like WPS Office to make presentations, edit PDFs, or create spreadsheets with ease.

How to Improve Performance on Lenovo Yoga 720-15

Now comes the fun part. You can upgrade your laptop however much you like, with whatever budget you have. Here are some of my preferred improvements that I did on my Lenovo Yoga 720-15

Update Drivers and BIOS

I like that my OS has been updated to the latest specs. It gives you better security, fixes bugs, and overall improves your PC's performance. Here’s how you can do that:

Step 1: Head over to the Lenovo Support website.

Step 2: Type in your laptop model, which would be Yoga 720- 15IKB, or enter your device’s serial number.

Step 3: Go through the latest drivers and BIOS updates. It is usually an .exe file. Go ahead and download that.

Step 4: Now, open the .exe file you just downloaded and follow all the steps. The software will guide you along.

Step 5: Click finish, and you’ve just successfully updated your BIOS.

After the update, your system will reboot. Be sure not to disturb any of the processes.

Manage Startup Programs

I’d rather not sit there and watch the loading screen go on forever, therefore, I like a fast boot. To achieve that, you have to select which programs start automatically when you turn on your laptop. Here’s how you do that:

Step 1: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Open Task Manager Shortcut

Step 2: Navigate to the “Startup” tab.

Task Manager

Step 3: Disable programs that you don't need at startup.

Upgrade to an SSD (if not already equipped)

If you’ve learned anything about me, if anything at all, is that I like a computer that is snappy. I like to live fast and any lag is not appreciated. To make sure my computer can keep up with my speed I like to do an SSD upgrade as well. An SSD significantly boosts boot times and overall performance.

To do a proper upgrade, I feel it’s best if you consult a professional or refer to Lenovo's hardware upgrade guides as different models might have different needs. Ensure your internet connection is active during the process. LSB is compatible with most Lenovo devices and simplifies the warranty check process.

Once I’m done, I can confidently say I noticed a 40% improvement in my laptop’s performance. The boot time is shorter, the flow is much smoother, and I can multitask pretty easily.

The models sound and look very similar, and you might even be confused about what makes them different. Here’s a side-by-side comparison to help you figure that out

To give you a proper review, I tested out both models for office work. As per my experience, I found the Lenovo Yoga’s touch screen feature very useful when annotating PDFs with WPS Office, and taking handwritten notes with my stylus on WPS Writer was a breeze. The IdeaPad 720s however, was great for traveling because it weighs a bit less than the Yoga.

WPS Office: A Powerful Suite for Lenovo Yoga 720-15

Regardless of what laptop you choose, what you do need are powerful Office tools to help day to day. No, you don’t have to purchase Microsoft tools for that to help you stay productive without worrying about whether or not it is Microsoft Office compatible (because it is and does the job better). Not when you have WPS Office.

WPS 365

We get it. Stepping away from mainstream tools like Microsoft Office can feel risky. But with WPS Office, there's no need for concern. It’s fully compatible with all Microsoft Office formats, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, so your colleagues and classmates can open your files without any issues.

Another major advantage is that WPS Office is lightweight. It uses minimal RAM, which means it runs smoothly even on devices with limited resources like my own Lenovo Yoga and IdeaPad.

Plus, WPS Office comes packed with useful features: you can edit PDFs, sync files to the cloud, and even get help from its AI-powered writing assistant. Best of all: The free version includes everything you need. And if you ever want to unlock even more tools, the premium plan is incredibly affordable.

Here’s a rundown of all the tools I use on WPS Office:

WPS Writer

WPS Writer is a free alternative to Microsoft Word. Whether you're drafting essays, reports, or professional documents, it offers everything you need. Text formatting, tables, images, comments, and track changes, all in a familiar, user-friendly layout.

WPS Presentation

Need to whip up a presentation but don’t have PowerPoint? No problem. With WPS Presentation, you can design slides complete with text, images, animations, and transitions, all fully compatible with .ppt and .pptx formats.

WPS Spreadsheet

From budget planning to data analysis, WPS Spreadsheet is your go-to tool when Microsoft Excel isn't available. It supports formulas, pivot tables, charts, and conditional formatting, making it perfect for managing data and crunching numbers efficiently.

WPS PDF

This is where WPS Office truly shines. The built-in WPS PDF tool lets you view, annotate, merge, and convert PDFs (even convert between PDF and Word formats) without needing a separate software. It’s a powerful addition that gives WPS an edge over traditional Office Suites.
