How to Recover Unsaved File in Excel

We have all been there. It's a terrible feeling when you have put so much work into your file and suddenly you are forced to close it without saving, or the application closes on its own. The best approach to avoid this scenario is to use autosave, but that doesn't solve the problem every time. In case of emergencies like a power outage, the WPS office gives you the ability to create backup files at any time. So, you can recover or find back your files with ease if you lost or delete WPS documents, you can try the following ways to get back to them as soon as possible.

Recover File from the Prompt

When you forget to save your document, or the file quits unexpectedly. Take it easy, the simplest way is to Re-launching your WPS Writer, and a prompt will pop up and you can recover your file backups according to the reminer.

Find out the Lost Documents from the Local File.

In case your program closes before you press CTRL + S, you can find these recovered files and select which file you want to save. If there aren’t any prompts pop up, you can find these recovered files:

  1. Click Writer and select the Backup Management tab on the drop-down list.

2. The Backup Management panel will be shown on the right.

3. Select the ones you want to open and save them.


If there are no files in the Backup Management panel, please click View Other Backups on the right bottom, then a backup folder will pop up. All your backups will be stored in this folder.

How to Backup WPS Documents to Prevent Data Loss

You lost WPS documents, mostly because of your unsaved WPS documents. Actually, you can make full use of the WPS cloud service or local backup settings to back up WPS documents automatically, preventing unsaved WPS documents lost.

  1. Enable AutoSave in WPS Document Locally.

WPS Office Suite enables you to enable Autosave as well as customize the time gap for autosave while you writing or editing a WPS file.

Open WPS Writer/Presentation/Spreadsheets, click the first icon on the top left > click Options at the bottom right > go to General and Save. In the Recover and Options, you can see backup options, tick the checkboxes and save time gap.

  1. Use WPS Cloud to Back Up WPS Files

File Roaming is a feature for WPS users. Once a file is created, it will be saved in the WPS cloud, letting users view and edit it on different computers, Android phones, or iOS devices after logging in with the same account. It's an option to prevent un-saving WPS issue

  1. Schedule Backup of Important WPS Files
