Problem Description: Writing Fairly Large Book
I'm writing a fairly large book and I have formatted my document to be in landscape orientation as far as the page layout, it has two (2) columns, which each represents one (1) page. Therefore, I am showing two (2) pages per one (1) actual piece of paper. My question is, how can I insert page numbers to appear under both columns to represent both pages on the one (1) sheet? Everything I have tried keeps showing 1 page number for the physical sheet, not the two (2) pages on the sheet... I don't know if this makes sense to anyone. Imagine a book laying open, you see two pages, the left page and the right page, now envision that just printed off onto one sheet of paper. You then would have 2 columns on 1 page. I need page numbers for the left column and also for the right column. How can I do this without messing my entire document up, or having to start over. I'm currently on page 192 of this book. PLEASE HELP ME!!
Quick Answer for Formatting Issues Quick Fix
This approach is not recommended for a large book.
Likely Causes Behind Office Failure Patterns
The Microsoft account or license context may not match the purchase or device.
Cached credentials, outdated builds, or damaged local components can trigger formatting issues.
A file-specific corruption or add-in conflict can mimic a broader application failure.
Recommended Solution: Transferring Office License Safely
When to use this: Apply these steps when the symptoms match and you can access the relevant Microsoft account or administrator.
Instead, use Word's built-in booklet option if it is a booklet, with full instructions at http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/2PagesPerSheet.htm#CreatingBooklet.
For commercial printing, set up the document as individual pages.
Even for booklets, it is better to set up for the half-size page (A5 or 5.5" x 8.5"), convert to PDF, and use the booklet-printing setting in the printer dialog.
Putting two pages on one page will not print correctly, as pages will be in the wrong order and pagination will be incorrect.
Alternative Solutions for Fallback Options for Formatting Issues
Retry the Microsoft-side steps after restarting the app and device.
Test the same action in a private browser session or a new blank file to isolate account vs file issues.
Capture exact error text and screenshots before contacting Microsoft Support or your administrator.
Working with WPS Office: Editing Files in WPS During Formatting Issues

WPS Office cannot replace Microsoft account, activation, or cloud fixes for this scenario. It remains one of the best free Microsoft Office-compatible alternatives for opening and editing local files.
Download and install WPS Office from the official website.
Open local Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files in the matching WPS app.
Save a working copy locally while Microsoft-side issues are resolved.
Return to Microsoft Office after the primary fix succeeds.
If you need a practical local workspace in the meantime, try WPS Office.
Prevention Tips for Smooth Office Device Transfers
Keep one primary Microsoft account for subscriptions and Office sign-in.
Install updates for Office and Windows before retrying failed workflows.
Back up important files before repair, reset, or reinstall actions.
Work on copies and keep version history enabled when available.
