When Microsoft Account stops working as expected, start with the shortest official checks before you reinstall anything.

Problem Description: Account Recovery Verification Via

Hello Team, Right now I am experiencing a very hard time trying to recover my personal microsoft account. ## Introduction This account was long active and i have it linked to almost everything I do, since my OneDrive is my Cloud service of choice. Last Sunday I opened my Laptop to try and get some work done, then I got the notification, that i should sign back into my microsoft account (so far nothing out of the odinary). When trying to do so, I entered my password as usual and I was prompted with this message: **Support us in securing your account** We have detected unusual activities in your Microsoft account "***@hotmail.de" (I'm German, so this is crudely translated) or suspect that your login credentials may be compromised. For your safety and to ensure that only you can access your account, you are asked to verify your identity and change your password. **The only option i had to do so was to use E-mail to send a verification code**, which i tried, but after checking multiple times no email was recieved. So i did this again, this time on my phone and on my personal PC but i never recieved any verification codes to the provided email. ## Recovery So i did some further investigating and used the **Sign-in Helper** with no success, but I was suggested to use the **recovery form.** Doing so lead to my account being blocked and i still dont get any verification codes via E-mail. So what I'm left with currently, is trying to fill out the recovery form again and again to try to get this account back, but looking at others trying this on Reddit or similar discussion platforms I believe the chances of this working are slim. Which is why im using my Student account now **to reach out to YOU!** I hope this finds someone who might be able to help, I really need to have access to the OneDrive as I mentioned earlier and this requires me to be able to sign into my account. I also checked my other devices, but all of them got signed out of the account. ## Summary (TLDR) After being logged out of my account for unusual activities on my Microsoft account, I couldnt sign back in due to the verification E-mails not being sent or recieved. I only have a E-mail for verification set up, so no other options are possible. On suggestion of the Sign-in Helper the submission of the recovery form lead to my account being blocked. I'm out of ideas how to tackle this problem on my own, so if there are any viable options on fixing this I would greatly appreciate any help!

Quick Answer for Password Quick Fix

If email verification fails during Microsoft account recovery, first check your spam/junk folder for the verification code, as it may be filtered.

Likely Causes Behind Microsoft Account Failure Patterns

  • The Microsoft account or license context may not match the purchase or device.

  • Cached credentials, outdated builds, or damaged local components can trigger password & account recovery.

  • A file-specific corruption or add-in conflict can mimic a broader application failure.

Recommended Solution: Restoring Microsoft Account After Errors

When to use this: Apply these steps when the symptoms match and you can access the relevant Microsoft account or administrator.

  1. If unavailable, use an alternative recovery method, such as receiving a code via SMS if you have a phone number set up.

  2. When filling out the account recovery form, provide as much accurate information as possible, including previous passwords, security question answers, and other identity-verifying details.

  3. If issues persist, contact Microsoft Support directly for further assistance.

Alternative Solutions for Fallback Options for Password

  1. Retry the Microsoft-side steps after restarting the app and device.

  2. Test the same action in a private browser session or a new blank file to isolate account vs file issues.

  3. Capture exact error text and screenshots before contacting Microsoft Support or your administrator.

Working with WPS Office: Editing Files in WPS During Password

WPS Office on Windows PC
Download WPS Office for Windows — Writer, Spreadsheet, Presentation, and PDF.

WPS Office cannot replace Microsoft account, activation, or cloud fixes for this scenario. It remains one of the best free Microsoft Office-compatible alternatives for opening and editing local files.

  1. Download and install WPS Office from the official website.

  2. Open local Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files in the matching WPS app.

  3. Save a working copy locally while Microsoft-side issues are resolved.

  4. Return to Microsoft Office after the primary fix succeeds.

If you need a practical local workspace in the meantime, try WPS Office.

Prevention Tips for Smooth Microsoft Account Device Transfers

  • Keep one primary Microsoft account for subscriptions and Office sign-in.

  • Install updates for Office and Windows before retrying failed workflows.

  • Back up important files before repair, reset, or reinstall actions.

  • Register more than one MFA method and keep recovery contacts current.

FAQs About Password Help Topics

Can WPS Office fix this password & account recovery issue directly? Only when the WPS steps match the formatting or file task. Account, activation, and cloud issues stay on the Microsoft side.

Should I reinstall Microsoft Account before trying these steps? Not first. Confirm account, license, and the exact error before reinstalling.

What should I send to Microsoft Support? The affected account email, device type, Office version, exact error text, and screenshots with personal data hidden.
