This guide walks you through mfa & verification issues using Microsoft-supported steps first, with WPS only where it genuinely helps.
Problem Description: Login Microsoft 365 Admin
I can't login my Microsoft 365 admin account because it now has forced MFA and the ONLY option is Microsoft Authenticator which has not been set up and there are no other options. I call for support and can't open a case via IVR because it is forcing me to aka.ms/prosupport which requires me to login with an admin account. I was able to change the password successfully because I can send it to the backup email I set up to send a code to, but don't understand why the same options isn't available for MFA. I login and then prompted for either of these options. As I said, I have not yet set up Authenticator for this account nor any of the users in this account. Then when I click Use a Verification Code a prompt for a code from Authenticator.

Quick Answer for Microsoft 365 Setup on New Device
If you are the sole Global Administrator, contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by phone as the primary method.
Likely Causes Behind MFA Root Factors
The Microsoft account or license context may not match the purchase or device.
Cached credentials, outdated builds, or damaged local components can trigger mfa & verification issues.
A file-specific corruption or add-in conflict can mimic a broader application failure.
Recommended Solution: Transferring Microsoft 365 License Safely
When to use this: Apply these steps when the symptoms match and you can access the relevant Microsoft account or administrator.
Follow the prompts to reach the right department and provide your organization details for identity verification.
If phone support fails, create a trial Microsoft 365 tenant to access the Admin Center and submit a support ticket requesting assistance from the Data Protection team.
Alternative Solutions for Secondary Login Fixes
Retry the Microsoft-side steps after restarting the app and device.
Test the same action in a private browser session or a new blank file to isolate account vs file issues.
Capture exact error text and screenshots before contacting Microsoft Support or your administrator.
Working with WPS Office: WPS as a Local Alternative

WPS Office cannot replace Microsoft account, activation, or cloud fixes for this scenario. It remains one of the best free Microsoft Office-compatible alternatives for opening and editing local files.
Download and install WPS Office from the official website.
Open local Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files in the matching WPS app.
Save a working copy locally while Microsoft-side issues are resolved.
Return to Microsoft Office after the primary fix succeeds.
If you need a practical local workspace in the meantime, try WPS Office.
Prevention Tips for Keeping Microsoft 365 Stable Long Term
Keep one primary Microsoft account for subscriptions and Office sign-in.
Install updates for Office and Windows before retrying failed workflows.
Back up important files before repair, reset, or reinstall actions.
Register more than one MFA method and keep recovery contacts current.
