Problem Description: Why Cannot Cancel Subscription
For the past week, I am attempting to cancel my Microsoft 365 Business Standard edition. On October, I got a free trial for my Microsoft 365 Business Standard because of my work as a cybersecurity student for a project. In November, I extend the free trial because of the deadline and how complex my project is. In Dcecember, I was selfish to read emails from microsoft that the deadline has passed and I have made several attempts to cancel this admin account. First, I couldn't find the cancel, I cancelled it but however it gets furstated that I would have to pay hundreds of dollars to pay for more services and I don't want that. Because it wastes a lot of money. I read that it is $13.13 per month for a yearly subscription but I would have to pay for month. Why would I cancel, despite Microsoft remind me to pay more, even so I ignore it and I don't pay for it. Reminder, I only use this as a school project.
Quick Answer for License Quick Fix
You may be unable to cancel your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription due to several factors.
Likely Causes Behind Office Failure Patterns
The Microsoft account or license context may not match the purchase or device.
Cached credentials, outdated builds, or damaged local components can trigger license & subscription issues.
A file-specific corruption or add-in conflict can mimic a broader application failure.
Recommended Solution: Repairing Office Startup Issues
When to use this: Apply these steps when the symptoms match and you can access the relevant Microsoft account or administrator.
First, the cancellation steps depend on your billing account type (MCA or MOSA); ensure you know which type you have and follow the appropriate steps.
If you're past the grace period, you may only be able to turn off recurring billing instead of canceling outright, which stops future charges but retains access until the term ends.
If you have multiple subscriptions for the same product, canceling one doesn't affect others—make sure you're canceling the correct one.
Additionally, you must be a Billing account owner or contributor to cancel the subscription.
Alternative Solutions for Fallback Options for License
Retry the Microsoft-side steps after restarting the app and device.
Test the same action in a private browser session or a new blank file to isolate account vs file issues.
Capture exact error text and screenshots before contacting Microsoft Support or your administrator.
Working with WPS Office: Editing Files in WPS During License

WPS Office cannot replace Microsoft account, activation, or cloud fixes for this scenario. It remains one of the best free Microsoft Office-compatible alternatives for opening and editing local files.
Download and install WPS Office from the official website.
Open local Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files in the matching WPS app.
Save a working copy locally while Microsoft-side issues are resolved.
Return to Microsoft Office after the primary fix succeeds.
If you need a practical local workspace in the meantime, try WPS Office.
Prevention Tips for Smooth Office Device Transfers
Keep one primary Microsoft account for subscriptions and Office sign-in.
Install updates for Office and Windows before retrying failed workflows.
Back up important files before repair, reset, or reinstall actions.
Register more than one MFA method and keep recovery contacts current.
