When Office 365 stops working as expected, start with the shortest official checks before you reinstall anything.

Problem Description: Office 365 Onedrive Sign

I can't log in to my Onedrive of Office 365 account. The problem started when I changed my account password several weeks ago. I changed it and singed in on both office 365 and onedrive without any issues. When I went to another one of my devices and tried to sign-in, it gave the error codes in the photos. The interesting thing is that if I change password on the device that I cannot sign-in, it signs-in perfectly whereas the original device starts to give the same error codes. Pronlem s solved everytime I change the password but it causes other devices to be unable to sign-in. I can sign-in on office online with the new password but it becomes useless as well when I try it at another device. ![1](/api/attachments/108459f4-55cb-4a33-a22a-b6badaba04c3?platform=QnA) ![2](/api/attachments/84ccb883-d440-41a8-b4ee-5f56cf3fd305?platform=QnA) One person here suggested deleting relevant sign in info in the credentials manager and I did so but this time it gives the following error. I still cant sign in. #### Correlation Id: 84930afe-d95a-4ee7-9840-3abad143baba #### Timestamp: 2026-01-06T07:49:36.000Z #### DPTI: 62977501e572858b866dc413e57d6f530429cf05ea19aa79e32ba215b0c5fba8 #### Message: An unexpected error occurred. #### Tag: 7q6ca #### Code: 2147780643

Quick Answer for Office 365 Won't Complete Task

When password changes cause sign-in loops with errors like 0x8004de44, sign out completely on all devices.

Likely Causes Behind Common Sign-in Triggers

  • The Microsoft account or license context may not match the purchase or device.

  • Cached credentials, outdated builds, or damaged local components can trigger sign-in & login problems.

  • A file-specific corruption or add-in conflict can mimic a broader application failure.

Recommended Solution: Repairing Office 365 Startup Issues

When to use this: Apply these steps when the symptoms match and you can access the relevant Microsoft account or administrator.

  1. On each device, sign out from OneDrive, Office apps, and the Windows Account by going to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and disconnecting the account.

  2. This clears stale authentication tokens, allowing them to refresh correctly.

  3. Use Windows Hello PIN or biometrics for future logins, as password changes don't affect these credentials.

Alternative Solutions for Broader Sign-in Workarounds

  1. Retry the Microsoft-side steps after restarting the app and device.

  2. Test the same action in a private browser session or a new blank file to isolate account vs file issues.

  3. Capture exact error text and screenshots before contacting Microsoft Support or your administrator.

Working with WPS Office: Using WPS While Office 365 Is Unavailable

WPS Office all-in-one workspace for documents spreadsheets presentations and PDFs
WPS Office — free all-in-one office suite for everyday document work.

WPS Office cannot replace Microsoft account, activation, or cloud fixes for this scenario. It remains one of the best free Microsoft Office-compatible alternatives for opening and editing local files.

  1. Download and install WPS Office from the official website.

  2. Open local Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF files in the matching WPS app.

  3. Save a working copy locally while Microsoft-side issues are resolved.

  4. Return to Microsoft Office after the primary fix succeeds.

If you need a practical local workspace in the meantime, try WPS Office.

Prevention Tips for Avoiding Repeat Sign-in

  • Keep one primary Microsoft account for subscriptions and Office sign-in.

  • Install updates for Office and Windows before retrying failed workflows.

  • Back up important files before repair, reset, or reinstall actions.

  • Register more than one MFA method and keep recovery contacts current.

FAQs About Office Troubleshooting FAQ

Can WPS Office fix this sign-in & login problems issue directly? Only when the WPS steps match the formatting or file task. Account, activation, and cloud issues stay on the Microsoft side.

Should I reinstall Office 365 before trying these steps? Not first. Confirm account, license, and the exact error before reinstalling.

What should I send to Microsoft Support? The affected account email, device type, Office version, exact error text, and screenshots with personal data hidden.
