I have a form (f Search Box) where users can look up an Artist's name, find their number, and call up all of their particulars, displayed in another form (f HT Creates). As the users may vary in their experience and preferences, after entering an Artist # in the unbound control, I want the lookup of the Artist to be triggered by either pressing the key or by clicking on the "Retrieve Artist" button. All errors that I've thought of have been taken care of and produce error messages appropriate for my users. The actual code is the "On Click" property of the "Retrieve Artist" button. The "On Update" property of the unbound control simply calls the "Retrieve Artist_On Click" sub. Works fine. I also want users to be able to exit the search function from the same form (f Search Box) by clicking on the "Exit Search" button. The "Exit Search" button simply closes both forms and opens the main menu. Also works fine. Except when the user has started entering an Artist # and clicks the "Exit Search" button without first clearing the control. As per the unbound field's "After Update" instructions, the "f HT Creates" form is displayed, and Access tries to find the Artist. If s/he is not found, Access displays its own error message that makes sense to me but won't to them. I don't expect this error to happen often, and I can live with this if I must, but I like to cover all of the mistakes I can think of that a user might make. My attempted solutions result in problems such as loss of one of the above-stated functionalities that are working fine.
