Question details

The user needs to navigate to earlier slides while recording a physics lecture, but the Previous Slide button is greyed out and unclickable.

Before you start

Before proceeding, review your presentation slides and identify the exact slide numbers where you made a mistake and need to re-record the audio or video.

Use the Record from Current Slide Feature

Since active recording restricts backward navigation, stop the current recording and overwrite the specific slide's media using this targeted recording option.

Microsoft PowerPoint's native recording workflow is designed for sequential recording and does not currently support returning to a previous slide mid-session. To fix a mistake on a past slide, you must stop the active recording and re-record that specific section.

Stop the active recording

Click the 'Stop' button in the recording interface or press the Escape key to exit the current recording session.

Navigate to the target slide

In the standard PowerPoint editing view, select the thumbnail of the earlier slide you wish to re-record.

Record from the current slide

Go to the 'Record' tab on the top ribbon, click the drop-down arrow under 'Record', and select 'Record from Current Slide'.

Overwrite the previous media
