How to Fix SharePoint Not Recognizing Videos Uploaded to Microsoft Stream
Product
Microsoft SharePoint
Device & OS
not provided
Scenario
Attempting to embed or link a video on a SharePoint page after uploading it through the newer Microsoft 365 Stream experience.
Observed behavior
The SharePoint page does not recognize the video because it expects the Stream Classic format, whereas new Stream videos are stored directly in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint document libraries.
Before you start

Ensure you have Edit permissions on the target SharePoint page and verify whether your target video is saved in your OneDrive for Business or a SharePoint document library.

Solution 1Recommended

Embed Videos Using the File and Media Web Part

Since new Stream videos are stored as standard files, using the native File and Media web part allows SharePoint to properly locate and display them directly on the page.

The traditional Stream web part is designed for Stream Classic. To display videos from the newer Stream experience (built on SharePoint), you must use web parts designed for standard file storage.

1
Edit the SharePoint Page

Navigate to your SharePoint page and click the 'Edit' button located in the top right corner of the screen.

2
Add the File and Media Web Part

Hover over the page canvas where you want the video to appear, click the '+' icon to open the web part menu, and select 'File and Media'.

3
Select Your Stream Video

A file picker will appear. Browse your Recent files, OneDrive, or current SharePoint site to locate the newly uploaded video, select it, and click 'Insert'.

4
Publish the Page

Adjust the web part alignment or size settings if necessary, then click 'Republish' or 'Publish' at the top right to save and share your changes.

Video Playback Support: The File and Media web part natively supports inline playback for standard video formats like MP4 stored in Microsoft 365.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my new Microsoft Stream videos not showing up in Stream Classic channels?

The new Microsoft Stream (built on SharePoint) stores videos directly in your OneDrive for Business or SharePoint document libraries instead of a separate centralized video portal. Due to this structural change, new videos do not sync to classic Stream channels.

Where can I find the videos I recently uploaded to Microsoft Stream?

Videos uploaded through the newer Microsoft 365 Stream experience are saved automatically to your OneDrive for Business or within the default document library of the SharePoint site where the upload took place.

Can I still create a dynamic video channel experience on my SharePoint site?

Yes, although the method has evolved. You can configure a Highlighted Content web part to dynamically filter and display all video files from a specific SharePoint document library, effectively creating an automated video gallery.
