How to import the text file in excel

Importing text files into Excel is a common task in engineering because there are so many different types of engineering software that can export text files. For additional analysis using data capture, remote measurement, CAD software, or finite element tools, you'll frequently need to import data into Excel. Consequently, being able to quickly import the data into Excel will allow you to start performing your analysis.

Copy-and-Paste

This information can be entered into Excel most quickly by simply selecting it, copying it with Ctrl + C, then pasting it into a worksheet cell with Ctrl + V.

Import a Text File to Excel

The Get External Data group under the Data tab is where you may find this command.

1. By clicking on that button, the option to select a text file is shown to us. When I select a text file, the Text Import Wizard opens. I'll go into more detail regarding the Text Import Wizard in a later post, but for now, click Next.

2. Select the appropriate delimiter for the data in the Delimiters group (conventional formats use commas or semicolons; by default, the Tab delimiter is used).):

Note: If you notice inaccurate data in the Data preview area, you must replace the delimiter even if you are fairly certain that it is correct.

3.   Choose the proper data format for this column in the Column data format group after choosing the column.

Excel is now asking for the data's location. The selected cell will be at the upper left corner of the imported data.

If I select cell F2, the available option will be displayed in the window. Additionally available is the choice to import the data to a new sheet.

So, after deciding where to insert the data, I can click OK, and the information will be added to the spreadsheet starting at cell F2.

Modifying Text Import Properties

As I already stated, once pasting data into Excel, there is no way to update it without repeating the process. But there are a lot more possibilities available if you import a text file into Excel. By performing a right-click anywhere on the loaded data, we may view these alternatives.

Present are now three additional commands in the context menu that weren't there before:

1.   Text Editing Import.

2.   Range Properties for Data.

3.   Refresh.

We can choose a new file to import by choosing Edit Text Import, which will re-run the text import wizard.

The Data Range Properties can be set with the following command. When that is clicked, the Properties window appears. We can modify the query definition's name and whether it should be stored from this window.
