All you need to do is specify a condition (or test) and what should happen if the condition is met or not met.
For example, let's say we want to calculate how many days it will take us to reach our sales goal.
We can use the IF function to do this:
=IF(B14=Yes,C14*D14, No Goal)
In this formula, we are testing to see if the value in cell B14 is equal to Yes.
If it is, then we multiply the values in cells C14 and D14. If not, we return the value No Goal.
You can use any logical operator (>, =,
Now that you know how to use the IF function in Excel.
How to Use IF in Excel as a function: Simple Practical application
Suppose we have the list of students and their mark and we want to check that which student is pass and which student is failed.
1. Open the file which have the data you want to judge once you have the file choose formulas and then click on insert Function.
2. As you click on insert function the insert function window will open now select a function and click ok.
3. After clicking ok function arguments window will be open this window have three boxes the first one is logical test type c1>=10
C1= we want to judge the data which is in c1 means the marks of students
>=10: it means that greater then or = to 10 now move to the second box.
4. Now we have the second and third boxes the second box is value if true it means if the value in c1 is greater or equal produce the result which we put in second box and third box will represent if value is not true.
So, we put pass against true and fail against fail. Now click ok.
5. After clicking OK you will get the result as we observe result in D1 is because value in C1 is less than 10.

And then click ok.
4. As you click ok you will get the result as shown in following picture.
