Fix PowerPoint Morph and Zoom Effects Disappearing After Export
Question details
User needs to know why PowerPoint Morph transitions and Zoom effects stop working or disappear after exporting a presentation, and how to retain them.

- Product
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Device & OS
- not provided
- Scenario
- Exporting a presentation that contains interactive animations, Morph transitions, and Zoom links.
- Observed behavior
- Morph and Zoom effects disappear or lose interactivity depending on the selected export format, such as PDF or XPS.
Ensure you are using PowerPoint 2019 or a Microsoft 365 subscription, as earlier versions do not fully support the creation or playback of Morph and Zoom features.
Export the Presentation as a Video
To keep animations, transitions, and Zoom effects visually intact, export your presentation as an MP4 or WMV video format.
Exporting to video renders all slide animations and transitions exactly as they appear in slideshow mode. While the visual effects are preserved, the resulting file will be a standard video, meaning manual click interactivity (like clicking specific Zoom links) will be lost.
Open your presentation, click on 'File' in the top-left corner, and select 'Export' from the sidebar.
Click on 'Create a Video' and choose your preferred resolution quality (e.g., Full HD or 4K).
Ensure that the option 'Use Recorded Timings and Narrations' is selected so your Morph and Zoom timings are respected.
Click the 'Create Video' button, choose a destination folder, select either MP4 or WMV as the format, and click 'Save'.

Save as a PowerPoint Show (PPSX)
If you need to share the file while retaining both the visual effects and click interactivity, save it as a PowerPoint Show instead of exporting to a static format.
Understand Format Limitations (PDF/XPS)
Verify the format you used for exporting. Static document formats inherently remove animations and interactive elements.
Create and Export Dynamic Presentations Seamlessly with WPS Office
If you frequently encounter compatibility or export issues with complex presentations, try WPS Office. It provides a lightweight, highly compatible alternative to Microsoft Office, allowing you to create rich, animated slideshows and export them with ease.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do my animations disappear when saving as PDF?
PDF is a static document format designed for fixed-layout viewing and printing. It does not support any form of animation, dynamic transition, or interactive multimedia from presentation software.
Do Zoom links still work when exported to a video?
No. While exporting to a video preserves the visual zooming animation perfectly, the resulting file is a standard video format. The viewer will not be able to manually click the screen to navigate through the Zoom links.
Are Morph transitions supported in older PowerPoint versions?
Morph transitions are fully supported for creation and playback in PowerPoint 2019, 2021, and Microsoft 365. If opened in older versions like PowerPoint 2016, the Morph transition will simply play as a standard Fade transition.
