How to Fix Errors When Joining a Microsoft 365 Family Plan

Go to the Microsoft account dashboard and sign in with the exact email address that received the invitation.

Navigate to the 'Services & subscriptions' tab to verify if you already have an active Microsoft 365 subscription, which blocks you from joining a Family plan.

Recall if you have left another shared Microsoft 365 subscription recently. Microsoft enforces a 30-day cooldown period before you can join a new shared subscription.

Ask the subscription owner to log into their Microsoft account and go to the 'Sharing' tab under their subscription settings.

Instead of sending an email invitation, the owner should select the option to 'Create link' to share the subscription.

Have the owner copy the link and send it directly via a trusted messaging app. Click the link and follow the on-screen prompts to join.

Type 'Cannot join Microsoft 365 Family plan' into the search box and select 'Get Help'.
