How to Connect One Excel Slicer to Multiple Pivot Tables
Question details
The user wants to use a single slicer to control and filter multiple PivotTables simultaneously.

- Product
- Excel
- Device & OS
- Windows desktop
- Scenario
- Filtering data interactively across multiple PivotTables that share a common related field.
- Observed behavior
- By default, a slicer only controls the specific PivotTable it was created from, requiring users to manually link it to other tables using Report Connections and a Data Model.
Ensure that the PivotTables you intend to connect share a common related field and are built using the same workbook Data Model. Note that linking multiple PivotTables using the Data Model is supported in Excel for Windows desktop, but not in Excel for Mac or Excel for the web.
Use Data Model and Report Connections
Establish relationships between your data tables in the Data Model, insert your PivotTables, and link them using the slicer's Report Connections feature.
To connect multiple PivotTables with a single slicer, they must share the same pivot cache or be linked via the Data Model. Using a unique lookup table allows different data sources to be filtered by a common field.
Select your source data ranges and the unique lookup list, then press Ctrl+T or go to Insert > Table to convert them into Excel Tables.
Navigate to the Data tab, click on Relationships, and link your source tables to the unique lookup table using the shared common field.
Create your PivotTables by selecting Insert > PivotTable. Ensure you check the box that says 'Add this data to the Data Model' during creation.
Click anywhere inside one of your newly created PivotTables. Go to the PivotTable Analyze tab (or Options tab) on the ribbon and select Insert Slicer for the shared field.
Right-click the inserted slicer and select Report Connections. Check the boxes next to all the PivotTables you want this slicer to control, then click OK.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are other PivotTables grayed out or missing in Report Connections?
This happens when the PivotTables are built from different data sources (different pivot caches) and are not linked via a Data Model. To fix this, ensure all PivotTables are created from the exact same table range or are properly related in the Data Model.
Does this slicer connection method work on Excel for Mac?
Creating relationships using the Data Model to connect multiple PivotTables is currently only supported in Excel for Windows desktop. It is not available on Excel for Mac or Excel for the web.
How do I disconnect a slicer from a specific PivotTable?
Right-click the slicer, choose Report Connections, and uncheck the box next to the PivotTable you no longer want to filter. Click OK to apply the changes.
